How to Use ADHD to Your Advantage as a Business Owner

by | May 15, 2025 | 0 comments

ADHD in business isn’t just a vibe — it’s a full-on rollercoaster.
One day you’re building a full funnel at 11pm with a cup of tea and a weird hyperfocus rush.
The next day you’re staring at your laptop like, “What do I even do again?”

But here’s the thing: once you stop trying to work against your brain, and start working with it — everything changes.

Here are some ways I’ve learned to lean into ADHD and actually use it to grow a business (without burning out or losing my mind).

Work With Your Energy (Not Against It)
ADHD brains don’t love structure — but they do love rhythms.
Some days you’ll feel unstoppable. Some days you’ll want to crawl under a blanket.
The trick? Don’t force yourself to work like a robot.

Batch content on the days you’re on fire.
Do admin on the days your brain’s a bit slower.
And if you’re in a slump? Take a walk, clean a drawer, or do something brainless to reset.

Pro tip: If you’re on a roll, ride the wave. You can get a week’s worth of work done in one hyperfocus burst — if you don’t let yourself get distracted by 17 other ideas.

Use Visuals, Timers and Sticky Notes (Yes, Really)
ADHD loves visual cues and immediate feedback.

Try this:

  • Write your top 3 priorities on a sticky note every morning

  • Use a visual project board (Trello, Notion, whiteboard — whatever works)

  • Set a 25-minute timer (Pomodoro-style) and race yourself to get one task done

This isn’t about being perfect — it’s about making your brain feel like it’s winning.

Follow the Fun — and Monetise It
If you’re obsessed with something right now? Use it.
Create content about it. Build a product or offer around it.
Start messy and refine as you go.

ADHD can make you an idea machine. And not every idea has to become a business — but some of them? They’re gold.

Let yourself create. Launch. Test. Play.
You never know what’s going to stick until you try.

Automate the Stuff You Always Forget
If you know you’re going to forget it — automate it.

  • Use scheduling tools for social posts

  • Set recurring reminders for invoices, client follow-ups, or even lunch

  • Create templates for emails and proposals

  • Build systems once, then let them do the heavy lifting

You don’t have to remember everything. You just need a system that remembers it for you.

Protect Your Focus Like It’s Sacred
You don’t need more willpower. You need fewer distractions.

  • Turn off notifications

  • Put your phone in another room

  • Use “do not disturb” mode

  • Block your calendar for deep work

Your focus is your superpower — but only when you protect it like the precious unicorn it is.

Build a Business That Actually Fits Your Brain
You don’t need to do things the way everyone else does them.

You don’t need 17 funnels, 3 content pillars, and a perfectly colour-coded planner.
You need a business that gives you space to be creative, flexible, and human.

That might look like:

  • Shorter offers with faster wins

  • Fewer, higher-impact marketing channels

  • Routines that allow freedom, not rigidity

  • Saying no to things that feel “heavy” (even if they look good on paper)

You get to decide how this works.

Final Thoughts
ADHD in business isn’t a flaw to fix — it’s a fire to focus.

When you understand how your brain works, and you build your business around that, things start to flow.
